Why do dogs need worming?

Worms are everywhere, and they are easily spread. This means your dog can easily pick up a worm from another pet or their environment. Gastrointestinal worms can cause real damage to the gut lining of a dog or puppy, which is why you need to regularly treat your dog and break the cycle of infection.

Unfortunately, your dog will often show few (if any) noticeable signs of infection, so they may pick up a worm without you realising it straight away. If left untreated or inconsistently treated, worms can pose a health risk to your dog and your family.

Drontal® provides your pet with complete coverage against gastrointestinal worms, as well as controlling the shedding of Giardia spp cysts. Our treatment is required every three months (rather than monthly) and comes in a range of chews, tablets or a puppy suspension to make treating your pet as easy as possible.

Dosage

For dogs over 20.1 kg use Drontal® For Large Dogs, Allwormer Chews

You should be dosing your dog with Drontal® For Large Dogs, Allwormer Chews every three months, or at the beginning of every season to help control Roundworms, Hookworms, Whipworms and Tapeworms. Treat with Drontal® every 6 weeks in Hydatid tapeworm infested locations. If whipworm is a problem, retreat every 6-8 weeks.

• 20.1 kg to 35 kg - one chew
• 35.1 kg to 52 kg - one and a half chews
• 52.1 kg to 70 kg - two chews
• 70.1 kg to 87 kg - two and a half chews
• Over 87 kg        three chews

Intestinal Worms Treatment Recommendations

Worms can infect dogs in many ways, so it is necessary to;

• treat the dog itself
• reduce the environmental contamination by daily disposal of droppings
• remove tapeworm intermediate hosts eg. fleas
• never allow dogs to feed on offal of any species

What intestinal worms do Drontal® Allwormer Chews cover?

Drontal® Allwormer Chews treat and control the following gastrointestinal worms;

• Roundworms Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina.
• Hookworms Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma brazilience (this hookworms is usually restricted to tropical areas in Australia), Ancylostoma ceylanicum, Uncinaria stenocephala
• Whipworm Trichuris vulpis
• Tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus (hydatid tapeworms), Dipylidium caninum, (common flea tapeworm), Taenia spp., Taenia ovis, T. pisiformis, T. hydatigena
• and to control the shedding of cysts of the protozoan Giardia spp. in dogs.

Does not control heartworm in dogs. If worm problems persist, consult a veterinarian.

How often should I give my dog Drontal® For Large Dogs, Allwormer Chews?

• You should be dosing your dog with Drontal® For Medium Dogs, Allwormer Chews every three months, or at the beginning of every seasons to help control Roundworms, Hookworms, Whipworms and Tapeworms. Treat with Drontal® every 6 weeks in Hydatid tapeworm infested locations.
• If whipworm is a problem, retreat every 6-8 weeks.

Can I use Drontal® with other products?

• Yes, Drontal® Chews may be combined with other treatments, for example heartworm prevention, flea or tick treatment. Drontal® Chews may be given safely to all dogs including old animals, young pups, working dogs and greyhounds.

Can I give Drontal® Allwormer Chews to pregnant/lactating dogs?

For pregnant and lactating dogs, it is recommend you treat at mating, then 10 days before whelping and at 2 and 4 weeks after whelping. Then continue to treat with Drontal® every 3 months.

The safety of Drontal® chews has not been investigated during the 1st and 2nd part of pregnancy, and is therefore not recommended during these periods. Use of Drontal® for the 3 day treatment against Giardia spp. infections in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy should be based on a benefit/risk assessment conducted by a veterinarian.
