CEN Vitamin C Powder for Horses
Helps support the immune system, collagen production and iron absorption.
Vitamin C is an vital organic compound within a horse’s body; aiding in collagen production, iron absorption, hormone synthesis, bone calcification, regulation of antihistamine and supporting their immune system. Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant, helping to protect cells from damage.
Unlike humans, horses can synthesize their own Vitamin C from glucose in their livers – however deficiency can arise during period of stress or illness. A lack of Vitamin C can lead to several health problems in horses, including poor wound healing, reduced immunity, and joint pain.
Sodium ascorbate is a more bioavailable form of Vitamin C, meaning that the body more easily absorbs it. As a result, supplementing with sodium ascorbate can help to ensure that horses get the Vitamin C they need to stay healthy.

FAQ’s
Why Sodium Ascorbate?
Sodium Ascorbate vs Ascorbic Acid
CEN Vitamin C uses Sodium Ascorbate which is a highly effective, more easily absorbed form of Vitamin C. It is pH neutral (pH 7.4) as opposed to acidic Ascorbic Acid (pH 3.0), therefore Sodium Ascorbate does not irritate the intestinal tract or kidneys. Sodium ascorbate is easily absorbed by the body, and studies have also shown that it stays in the system twice as long as the acid form. Sodium ascorbate is the only form of vitamin C approved by the FDA for intravenous injection in humans.
How much Vitamin C to give a horse?
In general, horses can be supplemented with Vitamin C at a feed rate of ~ 3-5g/day (3000mg – 5000mg) this amount may need to increase for hoses over the age of 20 or for horses needing more intensive supplementation. The National Research Council suggests the safe upper limit of 22000mg/ day (~22g)
Do horses need Vitamin C?
