Denosyl Tablets for cats and dogs are designed to support healthy liver functioning or aid animals with impaired liver functioning or detoxification processes.

Denosyl contains the active ingredient S-Adenosylmethionine, which increases hepatocyte and erythrocyte intracellular glutathione levels in cats and dogs.

Glutathione is also a potent antioxidant that protects the liver from toxins and death and may be useful in cell regeneration. Low liver glutathione concentrations are common in dogs and cats with decreased liver function.

Administration of S-Adenosylmethionine may improve glutathione levels in liver cells to help maintain and protect liver function.

S-Adenosylmethionine may also be used in other areas of tissue oxidant injury and red blood cell fragility caused by certain toxins or drugs which are related to reduced glutathione concentrations.  S-Adenosylmethionine may also improve bile flow in cats.

Dosage and Administration:

Daily administration is based on 20 mg of S-adenosylmethionine per kg of  bodyweight.  Because the (enteric coated) tablet must be kept intact to prevent destruction by stomach acid, administration range is based on the nearest whole tablet.

  • Tablets (90 mg) for Cats & Small Dogs - Up to 5.9 kg bodyweight : 1 tablet
  • Tablets (225 mg) for Medium Dogs - 6 to 15.9 kg : 1 tablet; 16 to 29.9 kg : 2 tablets (or 1 large (425 mg) tablet)
  • Tablets (425 mg) for Large Dogs - 16 to 29.9 kg : 1 tablet (or 2 medium (225 mg) tablets); 30 to 54.9 kg : 2 tablets; Over 55 kg : 3 tablets

For optimal absorption, give tablets on an empty stomach, at least one hour before feeding. Administer a few millilitres of water immediately following any tablet administration to speed passage of the tablet into the stomach. For those owners who have difficulty administering tablets to their pets, Denosyl Tablets may be disguised in a small bite of food.

The number of tablets can be gradually reduced or increased at any time depending on the pet's needs.  When increasing or decreasing the dose adjustments should be done in full tablet increments.  Many pets are maintained long-term on every-other-day or every-third-day administration.

First aid:  If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.
